The purpose of this position is to perform clerical and technical work in the procurement, storing and issuance of parts and for the repair and servicing of public utilities systems, facilities and equipment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND
Responsibilities:
The following duties are normal for this position.
These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive.
Other duties may be required and assigned.
1.
Receives and dispatches service calls; orders, receives, stores and disburses supplies and materials; prepares and maintains inventory, records and files.
2.
Receives service calls from utility customers.
3.
Prepares work orders for water, sewer and gas services and needs.
4.
Prepares requisitions to secure needed parts, supplies and materials.
5.
Receives, processes, and stores materials, maintains inventory of materials.
6.
Issues parts and materials as needed, maintains log and ledger books.
7.
Communicates customer needs with field crews by radio.
8.
Maintains continuing and annual inventory records.
9.
Acquires and maintains service manuals.
10.
Answers incoming telephone and radio calls.
11.
Checks street signs, stands, and traffic cones at job sites as needed.
12.
Fills bulk water tanks as needed.
13.
Performs duties of Dispatcher as needed.
14.
Regular and predictable attendance.
15.
Ability to work in a cooperative manner with others.
16.
Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM
Qualifications:
High School Diploma/GED.
One (1) year recent work experience in inventory management.
Must have forklift operation experience and be able to obtain forklift operation certification upon hire.
Must have a valid driver's license.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Thorough knowledge of the availability and procurement of construction and specialized equipment parts and supplies.
General knowledge of inventory and related accounting procedures.
General knowledge of utility system repair and maintenance.
General knowledge of business mathematics.
General knowledge of standard office procedures.
Ability to operate standard office equipment.
Ability to operate radio equipment.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public.
Ability to establish and maintain effective and professional working relationships with vendors, staff, other department heads and governmental officials.
General knowledge of current office practices and procedures and knowledge of the operation of standard office equipment and software.
Ability to prepare and maintain accurate and concise records and reports.
Ability to understand and effectively carry out verbal and written instructions.
Ability to communicate effectively with other members of the staff, supervisor, and the public.
Ability to communicate in both written and verbal form.
Ability to develop, interpret and implement local policies and procedures; written instructions, general correspondence; Federal, State, and local regulations.
Ability to define problems and deal with a variety of situations.
Ability to think quickly, maintain self-control, and adapt to stressful situations.
Ability to maintain discretion regarding business-related files, reports and conversations, within the provision of open records law and other applicable State and Federal Statutes and Regulations.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This is medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects, and some heavy work requiring the exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires stooping, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, and grasping; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for color perception, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme heat, and atmospheric conditions.
